Clients often arrive with a colour in mind and leave having changed their sheen instead. Both decisions matter, and the second one is the one people feel without being able to name it.
Sheen sets the mood
Matte reads soft and modern but shows fingerprints. Satin is the workhorse — enough light to show the grain, forgiving in daily use. Semi-gloss and gloss read formal and traditional, and they magnify every imperfection in the substrate beneath.
Stain versus paint
Stain keeps the grain visible and ages gracefully. Paint gives you exact colour and hides mismatched species, but chips show the wood beneath. On mixed cabinetry, painted perimeter with a stained island is a reliable way to have both.
Always sample in the room
Wood, light and time of day interact. We finish sample doors in your actual species and hang them in your kitchen for a few days before committing. Every colour looks different at 7am than it does under evening lighting.
